ActionAid comments on the UK General Election results. Today’s election results show a clear mandate for change.

Commenting on the UK General Election results, Hannah Bond, Co-CEO at ActionAid UK, said:

“Today’s election results show a clear mandate for change. As we turn the page on a period marked by austerity and rising inequality, we urge the Prime Minister and his government to deliver for women and girls at a time when gender equality has gone sharply into reverse.

Around the globe, women and girls are bearing the brunt of the world’s most pressing challenges - whether that’s protracted conflict in Gaza and Ukraine, a spiralling climate emergency, or the worst cost of living crisis in living memory. If we are to solve the problems that billions of people across the planet are facing, Labour must recognise and resource the women’s rights organisations that are leading the responses to these crises.

Labour ran on a campaign slogan of ‘change,’ but real progress can only be made when women have a seat at the table – it’s time to ensure they have one and make the change we all need.”
